legal info
You do not need a license or permit to sell DOPE Magazine in any public place.
Selling newspapers in a public place is not prohibited, and police and council enforcement officers have no powers to stop it.
The right to sell a newspaper in public has been protected since the English Civil War. Freedom of speech is an important part of our democracy and any attempt to impinge on it is an unacceptable form of censorship.
We print the rights around selling newspapers on the bags we issue to vendors. Police forces and councils should be aware that any attempt to restrict the rights of DOPE vendors in any way (through threats of arrest, confiscation etc.) will render them liable to a legal challenge.
Homeless and working-class poor people have been criminalised in various ways, but this is not one of them.
vendor items
We have official DOPE Magazine vests and laminates available for those who chose to wear them.
Nobody is obliged to wear any sort of uniform when selling DOPE Magazine but many vendors chose to, because it can help with sales.
We subsidise the cost of these items. Vests cost £5 and laminates are £3.
You can pick them up from your local distribution point or contact us to receive them in the post.
